Keeping track of your work hours isn’t just helpful—it’s essential. In Singapore, your rights around working hours, overtime, breaks, and rest days are protected under the Employment Act.

Whether you're a full-time analyst in Raffles Place, a part-time server in Bugis, or a contract designer in Tampines, tracking your time ensures you're fairly paid and working within legal limits.

Need a fast and accurate way to check your hours or calculate overtime? Use our free Online Working Hours Calculator for Singapore.

What Is a Working Hours Calculator?

A working hours calculator helps you track the number of hours you work each day, week, or month. It’s especially useful for:

  • Verifying your salary matches your hours
  • Spotting unpaid or excessive overtime
  • Staying compliant with your employment contract
  • Supporting claims in salary or leave disputes
  • Managing your work-life balance and budgeting better

Whether you're in finance, food service, logistics, or education, this tool helps you stay on top of your time and earnings.

What Are The Working Hours Rules in Singapore?

Standard Working Hours

  • If you work 5 days or fewer per week: up to 9 hours per day, 44 hours per week
  • If you work more than 5 days per week: up to 8 hours per day, 44 hours per week
  • Anything beyond 44 hours a week is considered overtime

Break Entitlements

  • You're entitled to a meal break of at least 45 minutes if working more than 5 consecutive hours
  • This break is usually unpaid, unless your contract states otherwise

Overtime Pay

  • Overtime is voluntary and must be agreed upon
  • If eligible, you're entitled to 1.5 times your hourly pay for overtime
  • Not all employees are covered—managers and executives may be excluded

Rest Days

  • You are entitled to one rest day per week, typically Sunday, but it may vary based on your contract

Full-Time vs. Part-Time Work in Singapore

  • Full-time: Typically 35–44 hours per week with full statutory benefits (leave, CPF contributions, medical entitlements, etc.)
  • Part-time: Less than 35 hours/week with pro-rated benefits under the Employment Act

How to Calculate Your Working Hours?

You can calculate your work time using the following:

  • Daily hours = (End time – Start time) – break duration
  • Weekly hours = Total of your daily hours
  • Monthly hours = Weekly hours × number of working weeks

For example

If you work 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM with a 1-hour lunch break:

  • Daily hours = 8
  • Weekly (5 days) = 8 × 5 = 40 hours

If your contract states 44 hours, you’re within the limit. If you clocked extra hours during the week, those may count as overtime if you're eligible.

How to Track Working Hours in Excel?

Prefer doing it manually? Here’s how you can set up a working hours tracker in Excel:

  • Create columns for: Date, Start Time, End Time, Break Time, Total Hours, Overtime
  • Use this formula to calculate total daily hours:=(End Time - Start Time) * 24 - Break Hours
  • Format your columns correctly (Time format for start/end, Number format for total)
  • Sum your weekly total using:=SUM(E2:E6)

Excel is perfect for personal time logs, freelance timesheets, or supplementing HR systems.
